What you need to know about Omega watches?
Before we get into what you need to know about Omega watches, the best way to start is at the beginning of Omega watches with an intriguing look at the history behind these luxurious watches.
The Omega watch is one of those watches that presents an air of elegance and luxury and is seen on the wrist of many well to do men throughout the world including Hollywood stars. What many may not know about these watches is their beginning was in 1848 with the master watchmaker Louis Brandt started crafting the design in La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland. At that time, each watch was hand crafted and was only created as pocket watches. Louis Brandt died in 1879 and the company was then placed in the hands of his sons Cesar and Louis Paul Brandt who stayed close to their father’s tradition of hand crafted timepieces. In 1880, the name of the company was changed to Bienne which was the name used for the magnificent watches.
The very first watch known as the Omega was introduced to the world in 1880 shortly after renaming the company. The Omega watch soon became one of the largest and most elegant watches to be exported. The sad news is that in 1903 both brother died without any warning and at this time, four others took over the company one being Paul Brandt that also inherited the family tradition at the age of 23.
From here, the history turns into modern day timepieces that are seen on many stars which is now often referred to as the Celebrity Omega watches — George Clooney wears Omega Seamaster. George Clooney is just one of the many stars that enjoys the wonderful luxury of an Omega watch. His favorite happens to be the Seamaster Collection, which includes the Omega seamaster 007 James Bond 40th anniversary, watch. This collection has been worn for all the 007 movies since 1995 including the movie 007 quantum of solace and Omega Planet Ocean 600m was worn by Daniel Craig.
Today, the company is going strong as you can see in the news as Omega plans three more stores by 2010. At this time, India has five Omega stores but three more will be opening up soon including one in Delhi, one in Hyderabad, and one in Kolkata. Today, Delhi is one of the largest markets for Omega watches providing thirty five percent of the sales with Mumbai at twenty six percent. Luxury is something that no one will deny themselves of if they can afford the extra lavish items. With Omega watches, this is just one of the reasons the company is still growing. Another is that with this luxury watch owners know they are getting dependable and quality crafted watches as well as the prestige that comes along with an Omega watch.
Lets take a look at a few of the Omega watches.
The Omega professional ocean world watch review is one that will certainly make you look twice at this time piece. As with any Omega watch this watch offers the same great lines as well as the detailed curbs, you would expect from a quality timepiece. A bit from the ordinary are the orange highlights, which ensures more visibility for divers such as the bezel, which also has black markings once again in order to see well in the ocean.
The Omega men’s watches speedmaster professional moonwatch is another great sample of a quality manual watch offering many features that just cannot be ignored. This watch has an embossed medallion on the back symptomatic of a dragon with the head of a horse as well as writing the appointment by NASA.
The Omega seamaster GMT working chronograph offers a very unique feature unlike other Omegas and especially the competition, which is the bezel. It has hour markings for a full 24 hours divided into am and pm with half painted in silver and half in black when the owner uses the GMT hand.
The Omega seamaster planet ocean with ar coating is one of the newer models but is definitely on the most popular list. Of course, you will see the same design you love with the Seamaster series with a Sea Monster on the back but a few new benefits as well such as the helium valve built into the case and an anti reflective coating which aids in protecting the watch from glare as well as the unique orange bezel with orange markers makes it stand out in a crowd.
The Omega specialities tourbillon watch happens as the name implies a series of specialty watches that truly make a huge statement for anyone that ones such a rare treasure. The Tourbillion watch offers 45 hours of power reserve. This watch on the other hand is not actually made for diving or even snorkeling but taking a shower while wearing would be fine.
My personal review of a watch Omega Speedmaster x 33 is that this is the watch for the adventurous soul that also wants elegance on this wrist. This watch was actually crafted fro astronauts and pilots and NASA recommended this watch be used on the mission to Mars. Now, that is watch you will absolutely love to wear.
The Quantum of Solace Omega watch is a special designed watch for the James Bond 007 movie Quantum of Solace. In this movie, as mentioned above, the watch was worn by James Craig as 007.
The Speedmaster collection of Omega watches just happens to be a series of watches with one in this group making it all the way to the moon on the wrist of Captain Eugene Ceman, which was the Speedmaster Professional.

Omega Seamaster Watch
James Bond, when played by Pierce Brosnan, in Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, wore an Omega Seamaster watch. This continues with the current 007, Daniel Craig, in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. In fact, he even mentions the brand by name in the former movie.
In the Goldeneye, Bond used a quartz model 2541.80.00. In the subsequent films, this was swapped for an automatic chronometer model 2531.80.00. Craig's James Bond used a 2900.50.91 model. Of course, a James Bond who does not have special gadgets is not James Bond. The 2541.80 in the Goldeneye included a laser beam that emanates from the bezel marker, and an explosive detonator. In Tomorrow Never Dies, his 2531.80, in addition to a detonator, also carries the explosive itself. Other gimmickry are incorporated in the 2531.80 in the later films such as an emergency lighting and a wire strong enough to carry Bond's weight.
The ties that bind the Omega Seamaster watch with James Bond are further strengthened with issuance of James Bond edition models. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Bond movies in 2002, and the release of Die Another Day, the company issued 10,007 units of a special 007 edition. The dial displays the 007 gun logo. Four years earlier, an Indian distributor commissioned 50 "James Bond Choice" (sic) pieces for sale only in India. This is actually a 2531.80 but it comes with a steel and gold bracelet, with "JAMES BOND CHOICE" engraved at the back plate.
Omega Gold Watch
This precious metal, probably the first metal to be used by humans, has been used for jewelry and ornamentation since time immemorial, and therefore it is not really surprising that it should be utilized to build an Omega gold watch. This precious material, however, is the most malleable of all metals that is has to be alloyed with copper, silver, or palladium when used for jewelry. This is why we have 22k, 18K, 14, and 10k jewels.
As 22k jewels can still be easily bent, 18k is often preferred for jewelry especially those that need to be sturdy, such as timepieces. With the inclusion of other metals into the alloy, the color can be manipulated. For example, if you want your alloy to be reddish, you can add more copper. If you want white, you can use either silver or palladium.
An Omega gold watch could be a Constellation, Seamaster, Speedmaster, or De Ville. These collections for gents and ladies all have models that use either an 18k or 14k of this precious metal. Some models have solid casings and bracelets. In other models, this precious metal is used in combination with stainless steel, with the former at the front and the latter at the back. Certain models, such as the Speedmaster Broad Arrow, features an alloy that is rich in copper giving it a tinge of the color of a rose. Others come in the standard yellow color.
Omega Titanium Watch
William Gregor discovered this metal in Cornwall, England in 1791 and today it is alloyed with other metals to produce lightweight yet strong equipment and gadgets including the Omega titanium watch.
Sometimes referred to as the "space age metal," it has a lustrous silver color, low density. It is strong and corrosion as well as dent resistant. These qualities have made it an excellent material for a wide range of applications, including:
- industrial processes
- medical prostheses
- orthopedic/dental implants
- sporting goods
- mobile phones
An Omega titanium watch, like the strong and powerful Titans of Greek mythology after whom the metal is named, is considered an equally strong and powerful gadget that could be used in the harshest of environments. The models that feature casings made from this material can be used in salt water areas without fear of corrosion. Some are even water resistant up to 1000 feet.
Models that utilize this space age metal are the:
- seamaster racing chronometer
- seamaster 300 m chronometer
- speedmaster solar impulse
- seamaster 300 m chrono diver
- constellation double eagle chrono
These feature either a black or black carbon fiber dial, and the bracelet could be of the same metal or rubber. Functions include, among others, chronograph, chronometer, and tachymeter. Unfortunately for the ladies, only men's models are available at the moment.
